Humans, at a certain age,

assume they know of two worlds,

the one belonging to the past,

and the present one.

What sex used to be like,

what sex is like;

labour conditions then,

labour conditions now;

what a family meant in earlier times,

the utter bewilderment these days,

alcohol and spirits of past times,

drugs in the modern day.

Their present wisdom,

would have helped them outwit the past,

yet, with the knowledge gained then,

nothing other than survival is their foremost concern.

Forsaken the past as passé,

the future appears as a pretty distant end

In which to pay up one's debts.

More often than not falls prey to the present

the sharp-witted human with two worlds acquainted.
